I switched to OpenDNS in November, and I have been extremely pleased with it. They recently upgraded the reporting capabilities, making it even more useful.

Good start. One that is on the fringe is YouTube. There is certainly some great content for children: remember Rickki Tikki Tavi, but things can get out of wack quickly. Rule of thumb: stay in the room and keep the door open.
