The Health Care Bill
Greetings Dads,
What is the deal with the healthcare bill? There is so much from both sides, I cannot digest it. http://tiny.cc/prAbe
Any Dr., Nurse, Hospital admin, medical salesperson, etc that would
like to share an opinion? Is it true those in Washington are rebuffing
this plan for themselves to stay on their current plan? If it is so
good for the people, why not for them? I do not want sides, I want
information please.
This is one of the biggest votes in history and I want to make sure
that we (and our politicians) have all the data. Again, please do not
use this topic to post your political opinions, forget about Red and
Blue states - we need to be UNITED! I, and other Dads, need to hear
from those inside the Healthcare system so we can make the best
decision for out families.

The fundamental issue is that health care is not a right. It's a service that must be provided by highly trained professionals. From the last of the articles above:
"The government can provide “free” healthcare only by forcing others to pay for it. The socialist ideal of “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need” is unjust."

As a dad of three, for me it comes down to providing dependable, long term healthcare for my family and ALL Americans equally. Not just for those who can afford it. God forbid I lose my job, I want to make sure my family has health insurance coverage and not just for a few months under an expensive COBRA plan. Members of government have their health care program, the Vets have their program, the seniors have medicare, the rich have their "docs on call", but the rest of us are dependent on our companies and costly hand-outs. I want to see pro-active health-care with free annual checkups, not a reactive medicine program. In my experience, the latter is WAY too costly. My $40 individual co-pay is an entrance fee to a Dr. office. No telling what my insurance will pay. More often than not, I end up with another $100 post-visit. Multiply that times 5 and my annual costs add up. I'd hate to think what would happen if we were really sick. The rates I pay today are a result of a health care system gone awry. Insurance companies are creating "their" own program to either hide costs and make a profit, not to benefit me the patient.
Yes, a new health care program will cost a little more initially but peace of mind and a better managed program will reduce cost and outweighs anything else we have today.

I am not a health care professional, but consider the facts:
Many in the House of Representatives have admitted to have not read the bill, yet the vote was to have happened immediately, without time taken to study it. Why?
The bill uses archaic and hurtful language on page 389, referring to people with mental health issues as 'retarded'.
The bill claims to cut costs by creating a huge bureacracy. How is that helpful?
