Ideas for Activities with Your Kids

tony's picture

It's seems like there's at least a few times a week where I'm home with my toddler alone, we're both starting to get bored, and I think to myself: wouldn't it be great if there was a list of activity ideas out there I could just browse quickly and figure out what to do? I also kept hearing other dads talk about the same thing.  So I've created a Savvy Daddy Group just dedicated to gathering and sharing these kinds of ideas.  Please join and share the ideas that have worked for you as well!

Eventually, wouldn't it be great if we gathered enough ideas that we could create a quick/searchable database of these ideas?

Disney DVD... Just kidding.
Picnics, zoo, fish hatchery, gardening (kids love dirt), cooking, fort building in the living room, car washing, reading together.

Cheers,
Toby

Well today, I wanted to find something different for the girls to do. It's a lazy Sunday, but the girls are always full of energy. So jumped on "the Google" (he he) and found a pretty cool idea. An article posted showed that little kids LOVED Easter eggs hunts, but since it is not Easter a good substitute is a Treasure Hunt. My girls are 3 and 5 so I skipped making a treasure map of the backyard. I went to my penny jar and hid pennies and an occasional nickel or dime ALL over the backyard. They were so excited that they were squealing and laughing the whole time. I hid around $1.50 worth of change and it took them about 30 mins to find it all. What ever they found they could keep for their piggy pants. It was such a hit that I found myself hiding another $2.00 worth of pennies and the girls went hunting again. So I guess $3.50 for around 1.5 hours of fun is not bad. Especially when all I had to do was sit on the patio and enjoy a cold beer while the kids were treasure hunting. Cheaper than a gallon of gas to drive them to Chuck E. Cheese.
