We give thanks on Thanksgiving for
the things with which we are blessed. I have much to be thankful for -
including the fact that I've finally become a man more

Our 5-month-old just cut his first tooth. We've tried cold toys, cold wash cloths, and even some ice in a mesh bag device made just for teething. These all provided some temporary relief, though he's stilling having a really tough time sleeping more than a few hours due to the pain.
Oh experienced dads, what worked when it came to teething? (besides caffeine for you the following morning)
I am a new dad and we have a 3 month old son, Abram. His witching hour is usually around 6:30 PM or so. He typically will get fussy and will usually fall asleep for a few minutes. When we wakes, especially when mommy isn't around, he seems to be startled and will start screaming. The screaming will not usually stop by any conventional method. Shusshing, swaddle, passy, rocking, fresh air outside, nothing. He will only calm down when mommy returns. For instance, this went on for 45 minutes last night until my wife got home from her tennis match.
Sesame Street recently released their disaster preparedness kit
(DVDs, activity books, and materials) to help kids (and their parents)
be educated and prepared "just in case."
From the homepage: "It's a fact of life that not every day is a sunny day. Recent events
have exposed families to a range of disasters; the aftermath of the
September 11 attacks in 2001 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005 have
particularly emphasized the need to ensure children's physical and
psychological protection. Despite this need, there are limited
resources for families looking to instruct young children in how to
proceed if an emergency situation occurs."
Call them what you will, there seems to be a range of opinions regarding the appropriateness of these little pieces of plastic and rubber. What's the SavvyDaddy opinion?
It's seems like there's at least a few times a week where I'm home with
my toddler alone, we're both starting to get bored, and I think to
myself: wouldn't it be great if there was a list of activity ideas out
there I could just browse quickly and figure out what to do?
Open thread for activity ideas, links, resources for younger kids.
I'll kick it off with a few links we've run across, but feel free to add your ideas. The best ideas I love to hear are tried and true from the frontlines...
fun activity ideas, resources, and tools for you and your kids
This group is all about sharing ideas for fun, educational, real activities that we can do with our kids. We've all probably been in that place. You know the place. Stuck with the kids on a rainy day. Already went to the museum, pool, park this week and looking for something else to do. Have 2 hours before an outing, and the kids (and you) are sorta bored. Hopefully, you'll find something useful here. And please share your ideas as well!
