SavvyPack: How to Raise Savvy Kids of Strong Character

  1. heart savvy
  2. body savvy
  3. character
  4. street savvy
  5. mission savvy

A day will come when we’ll be through with leaky diapers, refrigerator drawings, and college applications. Did we keep the main thing the main thing? SavvyPack brings a long-term, thoughtful perspective about what may matter most: raising savvy kids of strong character.

Kids with Heart Savvy are able to express the full range of their emotions appropriately and constructively. They are aware of how emotions impact their decisions & relationships and can navigate their emotional landscape.

Kids with Body Savvy know how to take care of their physical bodies. More so, they are sensitive to how their physical health can significantly impact their creativity, relationships, and outlook on life.

Kids with Character may look like anyone else. Only when faced with difficulties and decisions does this inner strength shine through. They handle discouragement like a pro, keep their word, value others and themselves, and don’t take themselves too seriously.

Kids with Street Savvy know how to interact with others in a positive way. They know where to go for help and resources, are reflective about trends that impact their world, and are keenly observant about themselves and others.

Kids with Mission Savvy are equipped to accomplish and enjoy the mission they’ve been given in life. Aware of how the world “out there” works and savvy with specific skills, kids can achieve their potential & find meaningful work for a lifetime.

How to Encourage Healthy Eating Habits

As a father with a sweet tooth, this may seem like a tough one. However, I have found that encouraging healthy eating habits is quite simple. Being a fan of modeling correct behaviors for my two little girls, I just hoard all the chocolate I can handle at the office (I kid...sort of) and then eat all my fruits and vegetables, like a good little boy, while at home.

Safe Haven Laws: What's really going on with these parents abandoning their teens?

tony's picture

Has anyone else been following this crazy Safe-Haven Law goof in Nebraska? Parents are actually abandoning their teenagers at the footsteps of Nebraskan hospitals.  Starting today, it won't be legal anymore, but nonetheless, this really begs the question - what led these parents to do such a thing?

Kids room ideas

I got the final okay from the wife to take our "dining room" and use it as a kids room for the next 5-10 years.  Any ideas for what I could do to the room to make it a place for my kids to grow, discover, learn new things, etc?

Teething

sciguy75's picture

Our 5-month-old just cut his first tooth. We've tried cold toys, cold wash cloths, and even some ice in a mesh bag device made just for teething. These all provided some temporary relief, though he's stilling having a really tough time sleeping more than a few hours due to the pain. Oh experienced dads, what worked when it came to teething? (besides caffeine for you the following morning)

Big Brother not taking kindly to the arrival of new little sister!

bj1712's picture

I sure hope someone can offer some advice on this one other than what I'm already trying. Just this past week my 17mo. old son became "big brother" to the newest member of our family, "sissy". Because of his age, we aren't sure how much he really understood that we were going to have a new member of the family. We explained that there was a baby in mommy's belly and he would put his head on her belly and saw "awww, bebe". How cute right? We figured he would just eat her up. Quite the contrary.
